Insert Patron Attribute

The Insert Patron Attribute task is used to insert or change an attribute value for a list of patrons.

Insert Patron Attribute Task Considerations

By default, any currently defined future values will be used for the selected Attribute when the future value’s Start Date is reached. To overwrite any future values with the New Value, the Delete Future Values check box must be checked.

The Attribute’s New Value will begin on the Effective Date. To change an existing Attribute’s value from the beginning of the date range, the Effective Date should be the same as the Attribute’s start date.

If necessary, the attribute value’s End Date field can be left blank to allow the New Value to continue indefinitely.

Insert Patron Attribute Task Settings

The Change Contract Item State task contains the following settings:

Patron Selection: Select one of the following options to provide a list of patrons for the Insert Patron Attribute task process:

Remote File Path: Enter the full directory path and file name (including extension) in the available field. For example:

c:/folder1/Patrons.txt

The imported file can be an ID List or a simple text file with only one record per line. The file must be stored on the Odyssey HMS/ResCenter server. It is not possible to import the file from a local workstation.

Notes: If a file path is defined for a scheduled task, the path is referenced each time the task runs. If the file’s data is updated (either manually edited or overwritten), the updated data will be used the next time the task is processed.

When creating or editing a task, ResCenter only verifies that the Remote File Path field is populated—not that the file exists—allowing a user to schedule a future task with a file that will be added later. If the file does not exist when the task runs, an error will be recorded in the Task History, and a failure email will be sent (if the task is configured with an email address).

Advanced Find: Click the Advanced Find button to use the Patron Advanced Find function to search for and select patrons to process with this task.

Note: When configuring an Advanced Find filter, the Max items to return field is set to 1,000, by default. CBORD recommends users increase this value if there’s a possibility that more than 1,000 patrons could be returned for this task.

Attributes: Select a patron attribute from the drop-down menu. This is the attribute which will be changed for all selected patrons.

New Value: Select or enter a new attribute value. This value will be the new value for the defined attribute for all selected patrons.

Delete Future Values: If necessary, check this check box to delete any attribute values that have been set for future dates. If unchecked, future values will not be changed.

Effective Date: Select the effective date for the new attribute value. To change an existing attribute’s value from the beginning of the date range, the Effective Date must be the same as the attribute’s start date. Otherwise, the existing attribute value will continue until the Effective Date of the new value.

End Date: If necessary, select the end date of the attribute value. To allow the attribute value to continue indefinitely, leave the End Date blank.

Use Term Dates: If necessary, use the Use Term Dates drop-down menu to select a term to auto-populate the term’s start and end dates as the new attribute value’s Effective Date and End Date, respectively.
